Jeralyn Lawrence Published in the Journal of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers

Jeralyn Lawrence, Founder & Managing Partner of Lawrence Law, was published in the 2020, Volume 32, Number 2 edition of the Journal of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. In the Journal’s most recent addition, Lawrence co-wrote “Child Relocation: Case Law, Social Science, and Practice Implications” with Matheu D. Nunn, Esq. of Einhorn, Barbarito, Frost & Botwinick, PC.

The article discusses the evolution of how courts have viewed child relocation issues in divorce cases throughout the United States. Nunn and Lawrence give a history of relocation in the courts, the social science of what factors determine the best interest of the child, long-distance parenting arrangements, and international relocations. In the article, they conclude, “Sensible outcomes of relocation litigation only emerge after careful inquiries into the motives, benefits, and detriments of a proposed relocation on the child; the likely impact of a proposed relocation on a child’s relationship with the non-moving parent, on the child’s educational adjustment, and on the child’s social and familial relations; and the desirability, and feasibility versus impracticality of maintaining optimal relationships with both parents.”

The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers is a national group of lawyers who practice divorce and family law. The Journal of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers is the group’s premier publication. The mission of the AAML is to provide leadership that promotes the highest degree of professionalism and excellence in the practice of family law. Fellows of the Academy concentrate their practices in family and matrimonial law, a specialty that involves all aspects of pre-marriage counseling and agreements, legal separation, divorce, annulment, unmarried cohabitation, child custody, property valuation and division, and support. Each Fellow must demonstrate by personal conduct a professional and ethical commitment to his or her clients and to the betterment of society in resolving what are often intensely emotional and complex family problems. Today, the Academy is recognized as the pre-eminent family law association in America with more than 1,500 Fellows.
